Abstract

Background: The emergence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) has become a significant global health challenge. Bedaquiline, a novel anti-tuberculosis drug, has shown promising results in the treatment of MDR-TB. This article reviews the clinical characteristics and early outcomes of bedaquiline-containing regimens for MDR-TB treatment.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients treated with bedaquiline and assess the early outcomes of the treatment.

Methods: A crosssectional study was conducted on patients with MDR-TB who were treated with bedaquiline-containing regimens. Clinical data, including demographic information, treatment regimen, and adverse events, were collected and analyzed.

Results: Out of 120 patients, 80% were cured or showed a significant clinical improvement within the first six months of treatment. The most common adverse effects were gastrointestinal disturbances and liver enzyme abnormalities, observed in 12% of the patients.

Conclusion: Bedaquiline-containing regimens showed promising early outcomes in the treatment of MDR-TB. Further studies with longer follow-up are required to assess long-term effectiveness and safety.
