Opportunistic fungal infections (OFIS) are an important yet under-recognized cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer patients.
Immunosuppression due to chemotherapy, prolonged neutropenia and invasive procedures predispose these patients to fungal infections.
The burden is further amplified in patients from low socio-economic backgrounds due to delayed healthcare access, poor nutritional status and limited diagnostic and therapeutic resources.
